We have partitioned English into Grammar, Comprehension, Phonics, Composition, Vocabulary Building and Literature. Children learn to read more effectively when they first learn the relationship between letters and sounds through phonics. At PRIPPEMA, we employ an intensive, systematic Reading Strategy Program for pre-primary classes that consists of explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, spelling and fluency. As pupils move into primary classes, they read at their independent reading levels and engage in guided reading at their instructional levels. They are expected to respond orally and in writing to the texts they read. Grammar is taught within the context so that pupils learn to recognize how grammar changes meaning.
